Tonight's girls varsity basketball game will give Blue Waves fans a chance to show their support for Christopher Timpone, the 9-year-old Aquebogue Elementary School student battling Ewing's Sarcoma a rare form of bone cancer.
Dubbed "Coaches against Cancer," all monies raised at the game will be donated to a fund to help Christopher and his family as they cope with the impacts of the boy's illness. A free-will donation will be taken at the door.
Today's game is also Riverhead fans' next-to-last chance to see the lady Waves (9-0, 14-1) on their home court. Undefeated in league play so far this season, the Waves host the Smithtown East Bulls (2-6, 2-12) today at 5:45 p.m.
Their last home game is Tuesday, Feb. 14, also at 5:45, when Centereach comes to town.
The boys varsity basketball squad is at Smithtown East today at 4 p.m. The Waves (5-4, 7-8) need one more win to guarantee a spot in post-season play this season. Smithtown East (6-2, 10-4), in second place in League III, fell to the Blue Waves in the last seconds of a Jan. 10 game, when Riverhead came from behind to beat the Bulls, 65-63.
