Labortatory-confirmed cases of influenza in N.Y. continue to climb, but the incidence of influenza in the state so far is less than half the reported cases during the 2012-2013 flu season.

For the week ending Jan. 11, there were 2,126 laboratory‐confirmed influenza reports, a 35 percent increase over the prior week, acccording to the state health department. During the same week last January there were more than 4,000 laboratory-confirmed flu cases in the state, according to state health department statistics.

Influenza activity level was categorized as geographically widespread, with laboratory confirmed influenza reported in 55 counties plus the five boroughs of New York City, the health department said in its weekly flu report.
