Suffolk County Sheriff Vincent F. DeMarco is pleased to announce that permanent medication drop boxes have been set up in the main lobbies of the Riverhead Correctional Facility’s Administration Building as well as in the Sheriff’s Yaphank Civil Bureau. The general public can deposit unused medications into the bins from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from Monday through Friday. For more information, call 631-852-3436 or visit the Sheriff’s Office website at www.suffolksheriff.com.

“It’s important that residents dispose of unused medications in a safe manner. They should never be flushed down the toilet because they eventually seep into our drinking water. If you can’t make it to Riverhead or Yaphank, stop by one of our “Shed the Meds” events, which are sponsored in conjunction with local officials and organizations throughout Suffolk County,” stated DeMarco.
