Happy New Year!  As 2011 draws to a close, it is an opportune time to reflect on our accomplishments and to thank our community, our patients and their families for entrusting their care to Peconic Bay Medical Center.

Our medical center is animated by the knowledge of experts and compassion of neighbors, through the vitality of our Board members, our dedicated donors and the service of our committed physicians and staff.  At PBMC, this year was framed by a period of expanding our services to build a much stronger more complete continuum care for our patients.  Watch in 2012 as we roll out a new banner and brand to highlight our broad commitment to the health of our communities.

We stand proud as our promise of excellence is increasingly reflected in the outstanding care we provide. This past year, PBMC was recognized as one of the fastest growing hospitals on Long Island; we saw the opening of several new facilities, including the new, state-of-the-art Cary Grossman Physical Therapy Center and our new private-room post surgical unit in the Kanas Center for Advanced Surgery.  We broke ground on our Pegasus House Palliative Care Center, which will officially open in early 2012.  We are one of a select few hospitals to receive accreditation from the Joint Commission for Total Joint Replacement in Hip and Knee.  Our pioneering robotic surgery program continues to expand, with surgeons from Columbia University, Lenox Hill, and Harvard leading this impressive new program.

We continue to evolve as a major teaching hospital, recently establishing a new surgical residency program and expanding our graduate medical education curriculum. We are extremely proud of these achievements and accolades representing our clinical excellence.

I am inspired by the skill and unwavering commitment that our doctors, nurses and staff bring to PBMC each day. Their dedication and hard work is the foundation upon which we build our promise of excellence and continue to expand our programs.  Our Board members and the support of our friends and philanthropic partners in the community, who are influential in our progress to advance healthcare, humble me.  Know that we will continue to be excellent and a preeminent local healthcare resource.

PBMC continues to experience strong activity and growth, especially in surgical and medical specialties, emergency care and home health services. As we reflect on 2011 and enter another year at PBMC, take hope in the progress we make when we all join together to ensure our community's health and well being, for now and generations to come.

The spirit of the season is indeed alive at PBMC and I am personally very grateful for your support, goodwill and commitment to quality care.  Best wishes to you and your family for a happy and healthy new year.
