Blackman Plumbing Supply is building a new 40,000 square foot warehouse and showroom on West Main Street in Riverhead, according to company spokesman Gene Spivak.

The plumbing supply company this week completed demolition of five houses on its land east of its current location and plans to begin construction right away.

The Blackman project had been hung up by the state Wild, Scenic and Recreational Rivers Act regulations, but with the recent addition to the law of a new classification called "community river," commercial uses are now allowed again on West Main Street.

RiverheadLOCAL recorded the demolition in progress and interviewed Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter about the Blackman project and his hopes for revitalization of West Main Street.
