The Blue Agave Mexican Grill on East Main Street has been seized by the N.Y. State Department of Taxation and Finance for nonpayment of taxes.
Tax compliance agents took possession of the restaurant around midday today, changing its door locks and posting large orange signs on its windows bearing the word “seized” in capital letters.
According to N.Y. Department of State online tax warrant records, Blue Agave Mexican Grill Inc. has four open tax warrants filed against it, totaling more than $13,800. The warrants were docketed between May 22, 2013 and April 2 of this year.
The restaurant opened in May of 2012.
Blue Agave is operated by Ken Loo, who also operates Haiku, the sushi restaurant at the same address, and Hy Ting, the Chinese restaurant on West Main Street. Both of those eateries also have substantial open tax warrants docketed against them, according to online records. A $14,149.43 tax warrant was filed against K-DAN Inc. dba Haiku on Feb. 25. Red Willow Inc. dba Hy Ting Restaurant has two open warrants docketed against it, one from Feb. 2013 and one from this February, totaling $13,659. Both remain open and operating.
No further information was immediately available from the state Department of Taxation and Finance.
