Visiting hours have been scheduled for John Michael Romanelli, the former Southold councilman who died Tuesday morning as a result of burn injuries suffered in an accident at his business Dec. 30.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 5 from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Coster-Heppner Funeral Home, Main Road, Cutchogue. A service will be held Saturday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Southold. Interment will be private.
Romanelli was born Aug. 13, 1964, in Plainview to Pat and Loda (Pizzo) Romanelli.
An Eagle Scout, Romanelli earned an associate's degree in 1984 from York College in York, Pa. He served two terms on the Southold Town Board, from 1998-2006 and was the Republican Party candidate for town supervisor in 2003. He was the president of Burt's Reliable Fuel in Southold and converted its entire operation to the sale and distribution of biofuel blend products in 2006.
He enjoyed swimming, skiing and spending time at his beachfront home with family and friends, his family said in a statement.
Romanelli is survived by his wife Heather, his children, Ethan and Tara; his parents; and his brothers, Martin and Paul.
Memorial donations may be made to Eastern Long Island Hospital or the burn unit at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
