Vivian E. Leonard of Riverhead passed away Jan. 8, 2012. She was 90 years old.

She was born in Riverhead May 4, 1921, the daughter of Lizzie (Banks) and Fletcher Booker. She grew up in Riverhead, in the landmark Booker homestead, attended Riverhead public schools and graduated from Riverhead High School.

She went on to the Lincoln School of Nursing in New York City, where she earned a nursing degree.

Thereafter, Mrs. Leonard entered the Army as a lieutenant during World War II and worked as an Army nurse on active duty during the war. She was honorably discharged when the war ended and returned to New York City where she lived and worked as a nurse until age 55.

Predeceased by her husband, Isaac Leonard, in 2002 and by their daughter Triesta Marie in 1949, Mrs. Leonard is survived by her son Isaac Jr., of the Philippines, and a stepson, Raymond, of Maryland. She is also survived by her brother, Raymond Booker and a sister, Carol Joynes-Bright, both of Riverhead, and was predeceased by two siblings, James Booker and Ruth Winn. Mrs. Booker is also survived by six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive visitors on Thursday, Jan. 12, 2-4 pm and 7-9 p.m. at Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home, 406 East Main St., Riverhead. There will be a service on Friday, Jan. 13 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Riverhead, 1018 Northville Turnpike, Riverhead, the Rev. Charles A. Coverdale officiating. Interment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery.
