Donald W. Highland, of Riverhead, died April 21, 2014. He was 82.
Donald was born on November 17, 1931 in Jamaica, Queens to Albert and Edith Highland. He went on to marry Geraldyne (nee Vidal) and establish Don Highland Floor Waxing Company in Bay Shore. He was a senior active member of the Bay Shore Fire Department and former local school crossing guard at the Pulaski Street Elementary School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters Deborah, of Setauket, and Donna of Middletown, his brother Richard, of Bay Shore, and grandchildren, Chris, Matt and Kyle.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, April 24 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at McLaughlin Heppner Funeral Home, 336 Marcy Avenue, Riverhead. A private cremation will follow.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
