James R. Golden Sr. of Riverhead, died April 13, 2014. He was 83 years old.
Born in Riverhead on June 15, 1931, he was the son of John and Viola Blanche (Homan) Golden.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955 as an aviation machinist attaining the rank of Petty Officer 3rd Class. He then worked for the Grumman Corporation in Calverton as an inspector.
He is survived by his wife, Joan (nee Mortimer), of Riverhead, his son, James R. Golden Jr., of Australia, and his daughters, Diane Wilhelm, of Calverton, and Janet Walsh, Maureen Talmage and Eileen Thieme, all of Riverhead. He is also survived by his sister, Jesse Palmieri, of New Jersey, as well as by 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, April 21 at 9 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Riverhead, the Rev. Larry Duncklee officiating. Internment will follow at Calverton National Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home.
