Riverhead firefighters knocked down a fire at a cement block and wood-frame industrial building on Pulaski Street early Saturday morning, preventing it from spreading throughout the structure.

About 70 volunteers responded to the 4 a.m. call, Chief Tony White said.

"We got it knocked down pretty quick," White said.

Jamesport firefighters put out a fire at a home on Lockitt Drive off Peconic Bay Boulevard last night.

Upon arrival, firefighters found flames emanating from the rear of the residence and the house filled with smoke.

Volunteers ensured that the three residents of the house had evacuated, made entry into the building and located the fire in a rear bedroom, according to a news release issued by the department early this morning.

A burnt-out transformer in an HVAC unit on the roof of one of the buildings at the Inn at East Wind drew Wading River firefighters to the catering facility on Sound Avenue and Parker Road Thursday morning. Employees called the fire department to report a haze and a burning smell in the lobby.

The Riverhead man prosecutors said was the leader of a drug ring responsible for the weekly delivery of up to three kilos of powder cocaine to eastern Suffolk County pleaded guilty to two felony charges in Suffolk County Criminal Court yesterday.

Robert Love, 59, of South Oakland Drive, was arrested last July on multiple felony charges after an investigation by the East End Drug Task Force.
