2013 0512 vehicle fire

Riverhead Fire department responded to a fully-engulfed Toyota pickup truck on Ostrander Avenue just south of Route 58 shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday evening.

The cause of the fire is unknown, according to RFD Third Assistant Chief Peter Jackman.

2013 0511 mva

Two people were sent to Peconic Bay Medical Center Saturday afternoon after a two-car crash on Route 58 in front of Toys-R-Us.

A blue Chevrolet Cruze was attempting to make a lefthand turn out of the Toys-R-Us parking lot onto westbound Route 58 when it was struck by a green Honda Civic traveling in the left eastbound lane of Route 58, police said.

Police are looking for a red 1996 Dodge Caravan, which was stolen from outside a Riverhead residence this week.

According to a police report, the vehicle was stolen from outside a residence on Doctor's Path between May 6 and 8.  The vehicle did not have license plates at the time it was stolen, according to police.

Anyone with information about the van should call the Riverhead Town Police Detective Division at 727-4500.

A two-car crash in the Route 58 traffic circle in Riverhead sent two passengers in a taxi cab to the hospital and caused a snarl on Route 58 Friday afternoon.

An eastbound Nissan Juke collided with a southbound Lincoln Town Car operated by Island-Wide Taxi at about 1:30 p.m., police said.

A two-car crash on Roanoke Avenue Thursday afternoon sent one person to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the driver of a Mazda minivan northbound on Roanoke Avenue crossed into the southbound lane of travel into the path of an oncoming car.
