A Southold man was charged with driving while intoxicated early Friday morning after a traffic stop in Riverside.
Troopers stopped a car driven by Paul Reinckens, 24, of Southold, after they observed him speeding through the Riverside traffic circle and striking a curb, according to a New York State Police press release.
Police said the troopers while interviewing Reinckens "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage." Reinckens failed field sobriety tests and was subsequently arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated and speeding, police said.
Reinckens complained of chest pains while in custody, and was evaluated and released at Peconic Bay Medical Center, according to the report. He was released by police for a later court date.
