An elderly woman reported being scammed out of more than $10,000 by a man who promised her $1 million and a new Mercedes if she transferred money to the man via Western Union. She transferred the funds on dates between Oct. 20 and Jan. 25, police said. The matter was turned over to the detective division, which is investigating the incident.

Complainant reports an unknown person removed her wallet while she was shopping at Tanger 2 on Jan. 23.

27 January 2012 7:00 pm -  Peconic Bay Medical Center, 1300 Roanoke Avenue, Riverhead
Arrest
Nicholas R. Savino, 32, of Riverhead, arrested on an outstanding Suffolk County Police Department bench warrant after he was struck by a car driven by Dora A. Palencia-Catalan at approximately 5:20 p.m at the Dept. of Motor Vehicles, 200 Old Country Road, Riverhead. He was transported to police headquarters, processed and turned over to Suffolk County Police.

Someone removed a chain saw and spotlight, having a total value of $250, from the residence.

29 January 2012 1:58 pm - Famous Footwear, 1770 West Main St., Riverhead
Larceny
An unknown male removed five pairs of Nike sneakers, valued at $370, one pair of Sketchers, valued at $75, and one pair of Perry Ellis shoes, valued at $60 from the premises without paying. The suspect was described as a black male wearing a black leather jacket, black ball cap and dark jeans.
