Southampton Town Police report the arrest of a Riverhead man on felony charges of criminal possession of stolen property and filing a false instrument.

Police said they arrested James Singleton, 51, of Riverhead on Jan. 26 after determining that he allegedly sold a stolen automobile at a Medford scrap dealer's shop.

According to police, Singleton sold a 1992 Volvo to Gershow Recycling in Medford for $471. The car, which was inoperable and had no plates, had been removed from the driveway of an East Quogue home on November 30, according to police. A black tow truck had been seen taking the car from the premises, police said.

Singleton was charged with criminal possession of stolen property in the first degree and filing a false instrument in the first degree, both Class E felonies, police said.

Editor's note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
