A Riverhead man was high on drugs when he nearly collided with a police car on Route 25 in Orient Sunday morning, according to Southold Town police.

Southold police said Nicholas M. Horton, 33, of Riverhead, was westbound on Route 25 at about 9 a.m. Sunday when he entered the eastbound lane and nearly collided with a Southold Town Police vehicle.

Police determined Horton to be under the influence of narcotics and placed him under arrest, according to the report. Horton was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, and held for arraignment.
