The million-dollar homes of the North Fork

When many think of the million dollar homes of Long Island, they imagine the glitzy summer homes of the Hamptons, dotting the Atlantic Ocean shoreline. They would be surprised to learn that the North Fork of Long Island also has its share of million dollar homes – and their popularity is on the rise.

According to local real estate agents, more and more millionaires are discovering the North Fork is a good place for them to get away from the busy day-to-day grind and relax in a peaceful setting that is different from the hustle and bustle of the Hamptons.

“These people are not looking to keep up with the Jones.’ They have the money, but are coming out to a summer vacation property to unwind with family and friends,” said Jerry Cibulski, a real estate agent with Century 21 Albertson.

Kristen Riche, of North Fork Real Estate, said she is finding a similar trend.

“They are looking for a quieter and more low key lifestyle,” said Riche, adding, “And they are finding that you get more for the same dollar on the North Fork.”

And on the market from Riverhead to Orient is an ample supply of million dollar homes.

Valerie Goode of Colony Realty is currently listing a single-family home in Jamesport at 4 Tuts Lane for $2.1 million. The home, she said, features panoramic views of the bay, a summer kitchen, a pizza oven, a master bedroom with an attached deck and a large family room with a fireplace.

Colony Realty is also listing a cape on 7.4-acre estate in Riverhead for $2.9 million. The four-bedroom, one bath house features views of the Long Island Sound, a detached garage/studio, hardwood floors and a fireplace.

In Southold, at 650 Old Wood Path, there is a three-bedroom seasonal house for sale for $2.2 million. The house, which is listed by North Fork Real Estate, features a guest house, a sandy beach and views of Nassau Point.

North Fork Real Estate is also featuring a five-bedroom, four-bath bay front home at 805 Meadow Beach Lane in Cutchogue for $3.7 million. The house, which sits on a 1.28-acre lot, overlooks Nassau Point. The house is being marketed by the agency as a “gracious and timeless sanctuary.”

For just under a million, Cibulski has a single family, five-bedroom, three-bath home in Mattituck listed for $999,000. The house, Cibulski said, is “stunning” and offers “the hallmarks of craftsmanship.”

For another $1.9 million, a 102-year-old home at 2100 Paradise Point Road in Southold can be purchased. The house, which is featured by Douglas Elliman Real Estate for $8.9 million, sits on 6.1 acres overlooking the Southold Bay Front and includes a private beach, original architecture, six bedrooms, guest quarters and a screened-in beach cabana.

One of the most expensive North Fork homes on the market is an estate listed for $7.5 million at 3945 Soundview Avenue in Peconic by Corcoran Realty. The estate, which overlooks the Long Island Sound, features five bedrooms, three-and-a-half baths and is being marketed as a home that is “exquisitely constructed, without sparing any attention to detail.”
