Tim Bishop reading to Riley Avenue Elementary School students Jan. 28

Congressman Tim Bishop was among the guest readers who visited Riley Avenue Elementary School in Calverton today to read stories the children and answer their questions.

The school's "guest reader day," originally scheduled to talk place yesterday, was postponed when a snowstorm dumped about a foot of snow on the area, closing schools for the day.

The "guest reader day" was part of Riley Avenue's annual "Parents as Reading Partners" celebration. This year's theme was  "Be what you want to be."

Today was also  "dress up day," when students dressed in outfits representing what they'd like to do when they grow up: ballerinas, football players, race car drivers and police officers were among the future careers represented.

The school hosted its Family Reading Night/Career Fair Monday evening, when students came back to school in their jammies for a special story time.
