Second grade teacher Terry Messina and second grader Emma Hegeman examine a chick from the Hallockville Museum Farm.

(March 25, 2011 - Riverhead, NY) In honor of National Agriculture Week, representatives from the Hallockville Museum Farm and Suffolk County Legislator Ed Romaine visited the 2nd grade classrooms at Riley Avenue Elementary School.  Mr. Romaine read the book Chicks and Chickens by Gail Gibbons to the children. Hallockville donated the book to the school library and brought live chicks into the classroom for the children to touch and hold. The emphasis of the program was on the life cycle of the chicken, the difference between roosters and hens, and the number and importance of chicken farms.
