The Roanoke Avenue Elementary School has a very generous, caring group of students who are tireless in their efforts to help others. The school’s Student Council has cut two more checks for area charities. The school has two student council groups–one in the fall and one in the spring.

2014 0417 autism2The student council from the fall recently presented a check for $400 to Island Harvest to help them defray the cost of transporting food on Long Island to those in need of a supplemental food source to feed their families.

The Spring Student Council recently held a movie night (Despicable Me 2) fund-raiser. Their check for $400 will be sent to Autism Speaks. For several years, Roanoke students have participated in Autism Awareness week. The student body recently dressed in Riverhead blue as part of Autism Speaks’ “Light It Up Blue” Autism Awareness Day.

Earlier in the year, the Student Council presented Susan DiMartino, a Youth Representative from the American Heart Association, with a check for $400 that the students raised by selling Smencils on Valentine’s Day.2014 0417 autism3
