Riverhead Blue Waves Wrestling team beat North Babylon 55-21
Riverhead Blue Waves had five pins, two decisions and three forfeits when they met North Babylon last night at the Riverhead High School gym. Waves wrestlers lost only four matches.
Gabe Rice pinned his opponent in 55 seconds. After the match he said he’s feeling good and looking forward to the rest of the season. He says league competition is going to be tough but he thinks he will come out on top, and at least place in the county championships.
Coach Davey says its been a tough year for both teams. Riverhead and North Babylon’s teams both had a lot of wrestlers graduate last year, Davey said.
Davey said his wrestlers are developing as the season continues. “Rice is looking really good. Charles Bartlett is coming around, and is doing much better later on in his matches than he was earlier in the season. He’s coming from behind to win, and that’s huge,” Davey said.
“Next week we start the third part of the season,” Davey said. “Leagues and the county tournaments is what really counts.”
