A man already facing assault charges in Riverhead stemming from an arrest earlier this month is facing a new assault charge today after he struck another man in the head with a brick this morning during a fight on Railroad Avenue, according to Riverhead Town Police.

Police have charged Alvah Randall Jr., of Jamesport, with second-degree assault following his arrest today.

On Jan. 12, Randall was arrested after cutting a female acquaintance with a screwdriver, according to Riverhead Police. He was charged with second-degree assault after that incident. On Jan. 16, he was released on his own recognizance. Randall is also facing a March 2014 criminal mischief charge in Suffolk County district court after a domestic incident arrest, according to online court records. That case had been adjourned in contemplation of dismissal last year, with Randall released on his own recognizance and an order of protection issued, according to court records. He was next due back in county court on April 9.

Riverhead Police responded to the Riverhead train station this morning at 9:15 a.m. after receiving reports of two men fighting. Randall struck the other man in the head with a brick three times, police said.

He was processed and held for arraignment in Riverhead Justice Court this afternoon, where he was later remanded to the Suffolk County jail in lieu of $5,000 bail. He is due back in justice court again on Monday.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
