A man has been arrested in connection with the two armed robberies in downtown Riverhead this past week.
Brian Houpe Jr., 26, of Riverhead was arrested around 6:45 p.m. Friday on two counts of robbery in the first degree, Riverhead police said in a press release late tonight.
Houpe used a handgun to rob both Barth’s Drug Store on Friday, May 8 and Uncle Joe’s Pizza four days later on Tuesday, May 12, police said.
In both incidents, his face was covered; at Barth’s Drug Store he wore a gorilla mask, and at Uncle Joe’s Pizza, he wore a handkerchief, which covered half his face, according to police.
Houpe was processed and held for arraignment.
Editor’s note: A criminal charge is an accusation. By law, a person charged with a crime is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
