Riverhead Town Police, along with the Riverhead fire marshal and code enforcement offices conducted a code compliance check last night at Sabor Latino Restaurant, at 192 Old Country Road and found “numerous” violations, Riverhead Police Chief David Hegermiller said in an interview this morning.
Law enforcement officers entered the premises at about 10 p.m. Friday, Hegermiller said.
They found numerous fire code violations, State Liquor Authority violations and building code violations, the police chief said.
“No summonses were issued last night but are pending,” Hegermiller said. “I’m certain they will be issued shortly.”
Because the investigation is ongoing, Hegermiller said he could not provide additional details at this time.
“I’m sure there will be another referral to the State Liquor Authority,” he said.
Riverhead made a referral to the SLA last week, he said, after three women reported being beaten by two men — one of whom was armed with a baseball bat — during a disturbance at the bar at 3:39 a.m. on Aug. 7. Two men were arrested after that incident. One was charged with assault.
Other incidents at the bar reported by Riverhead Police include arrests for criminal possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct and reports of harassment, stolen property, criminal mischief and disturbances — one of which, in in April 2012, was a brawl that sent three men to the hospital.
Police, code enforcement and the fire marshal’s office make routine inspections of bars and restaurants regularly, Hegermiller said, noting that last night they also inspected Applebee’s on Route 58, where they found no violations.
